To the best of my knowledge, all dogs below are currently up for adoption in the San Diego, Orange or LA Counties. ( ) The various rescue agencies have their own pre-screening requirements for potential adopters. The sites that I typically pull these from are listed at the bottom of this mailing in case you or a friend are seriously considering a fuzzy and want to check out the pre-screening procedures.

Yes - It's that time again! Time to donate towards and participate in the San Diego Walk For Animals.http://www.sdhumane.org/goto/KimSmithThe 15th Annual Walk for Animals will be Saturday May 2, 7:30 am-noon at Crown Point Shores, Mission Bay. We'd love if you'd join us in the walk. On top of being a terrific fundraiser, it's a fantastic opportunity to meet hundreds of animal lovers just like yourself. Borrego and I have set a goal of raising $2,500 or more this year (I know - WOW) and need your help in order to do it. All donations are tax deductible. The money raised will help to not only feed, care for, and give medical attention to our animals, but also to fund much needed community programs such as cruelty investigations, pet assisted therapy, adult and youth education, emergency animal rescue and more. - |

Pouring on the charm for the camera...Scout loves his sisters and can't wait to build more confidence. He loves his foster mom and is working on hanging with the big dogs! The S pups were turned in by their "owner" after their unspayed female had puppies. Once they reached an age that the person couldn't handle, they were dumped at a high kill shelter with the comment "they are too much for us". The S pups are all about 3 mos old, ready for their homes, under weight and not well socialized. Although they are extremely friendly and try really hard not to be scared by big dogs. They absolutely adore one another and look to each other for comfort and security. Their foster home is pushing their envelope to get their confidence up. These are wonderful pups with great potential! Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way! She's a little on the round side so will need a locked pantry but would love to have a little dog to hang out withTypical German Shepherd, Carly is a little reserved until she spends some time with you. Once she is comfortable, watch out!!!! She loves a good massage and she will darn well tell you if she isn't done, thank you very much, with a not so subtle paw punch to your hand. Carly loves to walk her new neighborhood and meet her canine neighbors. She is excellent with small dogs. They seem to be her favorite. She doesn't bark but she will give her foster dad a "narc" bark if one of the other dogs in the house is doing something that she deems unnecessary. Smart as a whip, Carly figured out where the treats were squirreled away and when she is ready for one, she will let her foster dad know with a soft but definitive bark! If you are interested in meeting Carly, please contact Tiffany via email at tiffanycgsr@sbcglobal.net. - CSR |

If you're looking for a stunning and large dog, this is certainly your baby. She's still young and benefiting from training that you should continueEmber is an energetic, joyous adolescent. She's had little direction in her life. Once you get her away from her sister, Cinder, she is less of a goof ball and more focused on humans and what you want from her. We have separated the sisters so that they can learn to rely more on people than each other! Ember is going to be very large for a female shepherd - her feet are as big as pie plates. She is very willing to learn and will greatly benefit from an obedience class. Daily exercise will be important to help her have a job and get that energy out. She is good with other dogs and would make a great playmate. She loves toys and chasing balls too! Puppies are a life-long commitment. They need time, training, vet care and healthy feeding to become good canine citizens. Don't even think of adopting a puppy unless you intend to invest the time and money and commitment required, and you can expect to lose a few good shoes along the way! Poor guy has had it rough. He needs a foster home that will give him some loving care and good nutrition. When Ozzie found his way to shelter, he weighed 57 lbs. Once you meet him in person, you will quickly realize that 57 lbs on this very tall and long fellow is nothing short of emaciated. While in the shelter, he gained nearly SIXTEEN pounds. We don't have his initial photos but we do have these photos of him at 72.5 lbs. Skinny guy, don't you think? So we all can only imagine what he must have looked like at 57 lbs. Ozzie has a poor coat - his hair is coarse and rough. But we can see through to the beautiful boy waiting to shine through. Its amazing that he could gain 16 pounds in a SHELTER, one of the most stressful environments an animal can go through. Now that we have Ozzie, we would love to find this lovely fellow a foster home while he waits for his forever home. About 4 years old, Ozzie just wants to fit in. If you are interested in meeting me, please contact Beth via email at beth.coastal@gmail.com. - CSR |

A quiet older dog who might do well in a condo situationMallory's caretaker was forced to give up his three dogs when it became apparent that he could no longer care for himself. Devastated at losing his dogs, he was able to find some solace that all three were taken in by rescue groups. We understand that Mallory slept on his bed with him - she is now in a foster home where she won't stop wagging her tail. She loves exploring the yard and interacting with the puppies that live there. She is housebroken and quiet but appreciates a good head/butt rub just like any other good dog! If you are interested in meeting Mallory, please contact Beth via email at beth.coastal@gmail.com. - CSR |

A little dog who must have grown up with big dogs since he's afraid of his own size and comfortable with his shepherd siblings. Good with cats too.Sam von Doyle is an adorable little 10lbs poodle/maltese/shih-tzu mix that is about 12 months old. He is the cutest little guy, who is nothing but personality once he gets to know you. We know nothing about his past, but he is housebroken. He loves his big foster sister, but needed some time to warm up to his same sized foster brother and sister. He never had any experience with dogs his own size, and he just misinterpreted their playing for something more scary, but after a few hours, everything was great. He is wonderful with the cat! Sam loves his human companions too. He needs to be in an adult home with someone who is mostly home. Come meet this super dog, one wag of the tail and he will have you hooked. He is just the silliest puppy. - GS |

Doesn't he just look like a teddy bear or a muppet. He just doesn't look real!Diesel When I'm with my human family I love to sit in front of them and stare into their eyes. They keep saying it's adorable, especially when they stare back and then grab to hold me tight. I love to play with my stuffed-squeaky toys, those are a lot of fun! I also enjoy lots of things to chew on- cow-hooves are awesome and I really enjoy the bully sticks and rawhide. I also found a small deflated basket-ball in the backyard that I like to carry around. I get excited when Mom throws it across the yard, I pick it up and carry it all the way back. It's fun to romp around with this ball! I make my family laugh when I take a rawhide piece and flip it up in the air, then swat it around. Mom thinks I might have been a cat in my past life, maybe so but I can definitely tell you that I enjoy being a puppy! It's the best because I get spoiled rotten :) My favorite game with my canine friends is wrestling. I play with my younger sisters Ski and Inara all the time, I just can't get enough! They're the same way though so they never get tired of me. However, my 3 older siblings are all over 13 years old so I just let them be. I'm still learning not to jump on them but they don't understand that I just want to play! I have been around kids as young as 2 and 5 years old. I don't mind them hanging on me, it's actually fun because I love cuddling. In case youre wondering, I do ask to go out when I gotta go., I do very well in a crate., And there is nothing better than a dog door to go in and out. People tell me that I'm more adoptable if I know things. I've mastered "Sit" but working on "Down" and "Stay." I am good on leash too, I love my walks! I can even use the dog-door to go in and out and I love my crate, it has a lot of bedding so it's very comfy. My foster family knows me pretty well and they think the perfect family for me would be one with a lot of Love. I really enjoy cuddling, I'll even sit on your lap if you let me! Geez - I almost forgot to tell you that I just learned how to bark at other dogs, but only when they bark at me first! It's my way of communicating since I'm trying to learn how to read them. I'm not quiet sure what they're trying to say, so I just respond back. My foster parents find it hilarious but hello! I'm just trying to see what they other dog wants. - PBRSD |

About the FuzziesThe Fuzzies were born in 2003 as a collection of currently available dogs that appealed to me as I looked through various rescue and shelter web sites. My hope was that friends would consider a rescue or shelter dog for the next addition to their families once they saw how many adorable ones were out there. Kim's Fuzzies has grown quite a bit since then but the goal is still the same. I want to present that there are other places to adopt new family members than backyard breeders, puppy mills and pet stores (Please note that I support the aspirations of legitimate breeders to better their breeds without an eye towards pimping their dogs for money). I want to show people that their images of shelter and rescue dogs may be wrong - there are stunning dogs that end up in shelters and move to rescue every day. There are also, unfortunately, stunning and adoptable dogs that get euthanized every day because there are never enough rescues to help solve the problem. Awareness is everything. Please do not assume that, if you see a dog you like and then they aren't on the next list that they have been adopted. I rotate the fuzzies I include to give the best exposure to a greater number of potential adoptees. Always call the shelter or rescue and ask the status of any dog you find yourself drawn to. Additionally, if you are drawn to an animal but aren't sure you're ready for the lifelong commitment, please consider fostering (a temporary arrangement that pulls them from the danger of euthanization to live with you for a short time until they find the perfect forever family). It is so incredibly rewarding and addictive. Let me know if you need information about how to do this and I'll hook you up. The sites that I typically pull these from are as follows, in case you or a friend are seriously considering a fuzzy and want to check out the pre-screening procedures: San Diego Department of Animal Control - CS Friends of County Animal Shelters - FOCAS San Diego Humane Society - HS Rancho Coastal Humane Society - RC Helen Woodward Animal Center - HW Westside German Shepherd Rescue of L.A. - GS Labradors and Friends - LAB Beagles and Buddies - BB Pit Bull Rescue San Diego Coastal Shepherd Rescue - CSR Mission Animal and Bird Hospital - MABH

Please, if you visit one of the fuzzies on my list, whether you adopt or not, drop me a line and let me know your opinions of the pup as this can be helpful to me in finding the perfect home for some of these dears. And of course, if you adopt, please drop me a line so I can include you as a success story for your new family member.
