07.26.07 - Sequoia National Park - Day 1 (getting there, Muir Grove, campfire)
We left at 3:30 a.m. to try to get there in enough time to spend some time not setting up. We got to the info center at about 11:00 and watched a movie about bears and got maps and info about local hikes.
By 1:30 we were pretty much settled into our camp site - both tents up, food in the bear boxes and cameras ready for a full weekend.
We welcomed the rest of the crew as they rolled in one by one and then we set off for a hike up Muir Grove. The hike seemed endless even though it was only 5 miles - however we did discount the altitude affect. The end of the hike yielded a stunning grove of Sequoias - our first ones other than the ones we drove by tho get there.
We were exhausted by the time we got back but settled in to make dinner of salmon and mashed potatoes and a bean salad. Of course we had s'mores for dessert.
